I wanted this illustration to mimic the mood of the vanguard and the area that surrounds it. With a blend of jazz, vogue, bohemian, and gothic imagery, I created what I feel is a very sexy illustration, full elements that create the mood of the Vanguard for example:
-Flying bats and the castle silhouette establish its gothic and dark interior.
-The pink model exhibits its reputation as a glamorous and fashionable venue.
-The venue was established particularly as blues and jazz venue and this
shown through the green circled jazz player.
-The upside down pink circle reflects its acceptance of different people
like the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community that inhabits the
Newtown area.
The Vanguard is a famous and well established venue the idea of the illustration was not alter the viewers perception on what the vanguard is, rather entice people to experience or re-experience what is truly a hauntingly beautiful music venue.
