Supermarkets Create SuperWaste:posted 2 january 2008

UNI Project

If we want to do something about pressing global issues such as climate change we should start thinking about our food production and consumption. It is not sustainable to waste $3-million worth of fresh food each year. That is why we must confront the Supermarket Industry who principally fuel this
shocking waste
.

Australian Commercial Food Suppliers (CFS) operate on a system in which 3-million dollars worth of fresh food gets ploughed into landfill every year. It's a shocking waste when you consider 60% of our eco-footprint is embodied in the food we buy*. In association with the EPA*this campaign will address this issue, a PR campaign will be developed using an A1 colour poster design’s depicting a confronting graphical depiction of CMS waste and an website providing further information on the issue. intending to educating the public on the issue and pressuring Commercial Food Suppliers to adopt more effective waste management.

The colour blue was used becasue is it’s often associated with things like law enforcement for example uniformed police. This gives the campaign weight against the commanding, bluecollar, one colour branding taken by large supermarket chains such as Coles and Woolworths.

nicholas cassey When Australian consumers began to understand the issues in using plastic bags there was a 45% reduction of plastic bags in the supermarket sector from 2002- 2005 and also a change in supermarket policy.
